Lactose Intoler-Art
Born in Tokyo, Lactose Intoler-Art is a New York based unisex fashion and accessories label. Celebrating fashion as a means of personal self expression, Lactose mixes inspiration from the streets of Tokyo, to pop culture nostalgia.
Being deathly allergic to milk, designer Brandon has always used not-so-comfortable life experiences when for creating new pieces.
"Our brand celebrates the awkward imperfections that are an inescapable element of life. We often try to rid ourselves of things that actually make "us" uniquely "us".. Sometimes afraid to show the world who we really are."
For this Lactose x PAOM collection, the brand explores mixing elements of Japanese "kawaii" and "kimoi" ("gross").
"We used a lot of 'kawaii' pastels alongside deeper, grungy shades and textures for each piece." For example, a pastel Japanese Katakana alphabet jacket, covered in a "beautiful barf." "It'a grimey-grainy color theme, mixed with the idea of "'cuteness overload' and everything in between," The prints in this collection are both bold and expressive, while maintaining a wearable streetwear feel.
Lactose has always encouraged fans to wear clothes in their own way-
"You can mix these pieces up with vintage, or accessorize with your favorite indie designers...or wear the prints head to toe... There's no wrong way to wear it, as long as it celebrates "you."
