Ahh Sweet Death
Ahh Sweet Death is the love child of the cute and the macabre. Born and raised in central California, their influences are inspired by a mixed cultural upbringing, and an early introduction to Santeria/Black magic and fortune telling. Additionally, artistic influences and creative sidekicks are traditional tattooing, California skate/surf culture, Portland weirdness, LGBTQ culture, Asian and Mexican folk art, nature, and all things cute and creepy. With a background in Interior Design and Anthropology, their design style is influenced by folk art and folklore globally, as well as symbolism in each culture. Life and death, beauty and decay, youth and aging, bloom and rot: all beautiful in their own way, all necessary to the life cycle. While the bee is important for promoting life and wellness in our planet: the fly is necessary for cleaning up after the work of life is complete. Beauty is in everything, and that is what Ahh Sweet Death is: appreciating the beauty in all stages of life. Don’t fear the reaper.
“This collection was inspired by my first summer as a New Yorker. Discovering all the blooming flowers of the east coast during my daily walks, as well as missing the flowers by the ocean on the west coast. The Delft blue design was born from my love of Dutch folk art, and traditional tattoo design.”
